Elemental Magick - Air Magick - Clarity Spell
Meditation Clarity Spell
This spell requires at least half an hour. Do this exercise after a ritual bath or shower.
You need
Broom/Besom
4 small ceramic saucers
4 charcoal blocks
Frankincense grains, Air incense or incense sticks
Chalk
Cushion –yellow and purple preferably
Prepare charcoal blocks and place in saucers. Cleanse your ritual space, marking your ritual circle.
As you sit/ kneel in the center of your circle, face the east and mark the symbol of the element AIR. In the center of the symbol, place a saucer and while sprinkling the incense onto the charcoal block say:
AIR cleans
AIR clears
Clarity is here
Face South. Mark the symbol for Fire. Place the saucer in the center, sprinkle your incense and say:
FIRE cleans
FIRE clears
Clarity is here
Do the same with WATER and EARTH, marking each symbol to the west and north respectively; changing the chant each time.
When all the incense is lit, sit in the center of your circle. Close your eyes and visualize the AIR saucer and the incense burning. Visualize the incense clearing away any disruptive THOUGHTS, till your vision is one pale yellow screen. When you can visualize this clean yellow colour, turn to the south.
Facing south, visualize all the disruptive PASSIONS being cleared away by the incense smoke, until all that can be visualized is a clear red screen. Nothing but pure FIRE energies can exist in your body, only passions for the good of all.
Do the same for WATER (west) and EARTH (north), again visualizing all the disruptive EMOTIONS, and MATERIEL distractions being cleared away by the incense smoke to leave a clear blue and citrine colours respectively.
Go through each element again if needed, until all the colours visualized are clear.
Continue to meditate for as long as you wish. Thank your deity for the power to do this for yourself.
Open your circle, and clean up.
I usually finish this with some Clarity Tea, which I would post in another blog.

Elemental Magick- part one
Lets attempt to understand Elemental Magick first, and the reason for its development. Elemental Magick proposes that firstly there are four main elements in existence, and sometimes a fifth; Spirit; is named. Where did this come from?
In his article on Elemental Magick, Michael Lewis states that “The earliest of Greek natural philosophers, Thales, in considering which was the most basic element in the cosmos, from which the cosmos was made, supposed that the cosmos was made of Water. Later, Heraclitus decided that the most basic element in the cosmos was Fire, and Anaxagoras named Air as the essential constituent of the cosmos. In the 6th Century BC, Empedocles first suggested that the cosmos was made of four constituent elements, which he named as Fire, Air, Water and Earth, in order from the most rare to the most dense. “
These four elements are air, fire, water and earth. Keep in mind the Magick Law “As Above, so below.” These elements exist in the astral in different forms, and when manifest into the more and more physical planes, become the physical qualities that we can feel with our senses.
Why use them. Understand the Law of Attraction. If what we want to achieve in a spell, has a particular vibrational quality, then surrounding our thoughts with the same qualities will attract the thing we wish to have. (I refer to “thing” but this can also mean experience, feeling, goals etc i.e., the result of your spell and ritual work) Each of the elements, Air, Fire, Water and Earth has a vibrational quality. Spirit is a combination of all. Each element has various things associated with it, which vibrates at the same quality as the element, and creates a similar response in us; through our senses, when we interact with it.
Understanding the elements and their energies is important to know where to use them. You will need to sit and meditate on each quality, feel them, know them, turn them over in your mind’s eye. The physically play with them, feel the wind, observe a candle, play with water, dig in the earth…let all your senses be open to their physical properties. Smell them, taste them, touch them, listen to their sounds…then close your eyes and feel with your inner senses.
The element of AIR is the vibrational quality which is found in activities which are intellectual, communicative and expressive. It is found in new beginnings, the initial thoughts and compilation of an idea, the changing from one thing to another. It is also found in mind, all mental, intuitive and psychic work, knowledge, abstract learning, theory, rebirth, imagination, belief, wind, breath, poetry, and sound. Air’s essence is described as Hot and Moist; and has projective qualities (male polarity). For any activities or goals under any of these headings above, AIR magick is best worked. The details of AIR magick and its associations, and spells will be discussed in a subsequent blog.
The Element of FIRE is the part of the psyche that consists of all that is energetic, vitalizing and invigorating. Fire energies are transformative. Think of the action of fire, it destroys and cleans for new growth. It also is passion, spontaneity and dynamism. FIRE is said to be Purifying, destroying, energetic, sexual, and forceful. Its essence is Hot and Dry, and its qualities are also projective. Further Fire Magick would be discussed in a later blog.
Then we come to WATER. Water is cold and moist and has receptive qualities (feminine polarity). Water’s energy can be found in activities that are creative, receptive, fluidic, mysterious, hidden and of the subconscious nature. It is Flowing, cleansing, healing, soothing, and loving. Psychic abilities, emotions, nurturing activities all have water vibrational qualities.
Then we come to EARTH. Earth is the quality of everything which is manifest in the physical. It is grounding, stable, slow moving. It exists in activities of developing, productivity, growth. The body, growth, nature, sustenance, material gain, money, fertility, birth, death, gravity, silence, rocks, standing stones, crystals, jewels, metals, wealth, abundance, wisdom. Earth’s qualities are receptive, passive and of feminine polarity. Earth Magick would be used in rituals and spells which aim for any goal falling under these qualities.
In using Elemental Magick, the goal or aim of your spell must first be categorized under one of the above mentioned elements. Sometimes, your aim may have combinations of the elements in them. I would suggest that if you are a beginner, you simplify it to one element, before moving on to two or more in your magick. How? If you are doing a spell for inspiration, you could use either FIRE or AIR. I like to use AIR, because in my mind I associate thought (inspirational ideas) with AIR. I understand the passion (FIRE) which is found in receiving inspiration, but I believe the initial point comes from AIR. You may feel differently, and resonate with the passionate part of inspiration; in which case use FIRE magick by all means.
I think also, you should begin your own associations chart. You can list the qualities, draw their symbols, but before you write any of the association which you find (coming up in other blogs) you should meditate on each and ensure that they resonate with you. For example, incense is associated with AIR, but cinnamon incense has always brought to mind “Fire” qualities, and I use it in Fire magick occasionally. Always only use what you associate the item with. Always note your special associations. Your intuition takes precedence over anything that you have learnt. Note it, meditate on it and if your mind is convinced it is…then it is. You are creating a magickal process for you…not for anyone else.
In blog posts to follow, I will pull apart all the elements, giving associations for each of the five senses, and spells, rituals or simple activities that can be done to gather their energies around you. I have also listed other sites below for study.

The ritual of stagnating yourself.
With exuberance, many people jump into witchcraft feet first eyes open and learn all the ways to perform the correct ritual, the perfect spell, and learn how to do it with their eyes closed and one hand tied behind their backs.
They challenge each other about whether air should be in the west or east, or north, and which incense is the correct one for what etc etc. If you are so bent on perfecting the ritual by the books you are reading, then Magick will never help you, neither will Wicca, witchcraft or any other spiritual path for that matter.
Lets take a look back in time. Imagine if you will, that we have no thinkers of scientific theory. What would life be like without the wheel, without running water, education, internet?
The human race is constantly evolving, changing and developing. The individual, led my their minds also constantly changes and develops. Life becomes difficult when we struggle against it due to lack of acceptance or inability to accept changes. There is no benefit to us in stagnating ourselves.
Indeed, when we decide to clamp down barriers in our minds, like say refusing to consider that alternate rituals are possible; we are committing to ourselves the greatest injustice. You would not like anyone to put you in a 10" square room and order you to live out your life there. Why then, do you put your mind in a limiting position and want to stay there?
Our minds should always remain open. Our thoughts and desires are allowed to change. Its what Free Will is for. Its the ability to think "Where can I grow?" next and continue to make changes in lifestyle until your are happy in yourself. Life is about experiences, and if you desire an experience in an area...and can see you will grow from it, why hold yourself back?
Magick only works if you can relate to it. Which is why you have to know yourself. No sense doing a cleansing ritual using salt when the granules make you feel dirty. Your attempt is to condition your mind. Thats what the rituals are for- to condition your mind into believing that it is so, your are clean. Follow your gut, take your first instincts with something and use it. Remember always, that you are developing a system for you and you alone. Yes coven work helps, but your personal system is the best for you. Practice, change, adjust, use what pops into your mind.
Learn everything, try it out. Then throw the whole thing out the door and go with your gut.....fly on your own......fly in your own.

Your Goddess concept
Being Pagan/Magick worker, I am allowed to pick the god or goddess which will be suitable to assist with my goals. But what happens when there are no gods/goddesses in our spiritual heritage which fits the deity that I need for my goals? Can I create one on my own?
After some searching I believe that the answer is yes.
Gods and Goddesses are archetypes. I believe that they are a combination of fractual energies combined. So I wish to experiment with creating my own deity.
I cannot see myself working on a spell which requires generosity, when the goddess that I work with never has that trait. No....I believe that you should also identify who the goddess is....and their characteristics.
I am in the process of creating a goddess archetype who is generous...... one who delights in giving huge gifts of unbelievable proportions. One who gives "-fantastic gifts at Christmas just to see the look on their faces" generous.
Lets see how this goes.

your reality is a reflection of yourself
So besides the Law that "Thoughts become Things" there is the other Law in Magick that says "your reality is a reflection of yourself." In other words, what you experience around you is a reflection of what you are giving.
In my position at work I interact with a lot of people, who struggle on a daily basis to get their tasks done because of what I saw as their inability to see the bigger picture.
Two days ago I realised that I was guilty of doing exactly what I detest, which is spreading negative energies about people. In attempting to deal with an issue caused by these coworkers that I supervise, I sometimes vent to other workers close by. It did occur to me that the ventees may also go and vent to others and the negative opinion about a person is being spread, beginning with me.
I made the decision to stop the venting. I also began realizing that the lack of experience was not their fault. They cannot be blamed for the level of guidance they recieved in the matter. However, I can certainly be blamed for recognizing the issue at hand, and failing to correct it at the root, and guide them in the right direction.
I changed my outlook that day. Each person has a talent in their own right. Each person has an asset which makes them valuable to the company. I can focus on that asset and build on the positive...making their strengths stronger, and also, by focus, giving them the skills they need to maximize that talent they have.
I need to acknowledge their weaknesses and find a way to work around them, still getting them to accomplish their task.
My new mantra is " each person is a creative and talented individual. And it is my duty to find those talents and help them to blossom. By steering them down the path of their talents, I believe I would have a happier team.
In this way, I would emmitt less frustration, and thus receive less frustration from my coworkers. The cycle would then be stopped, by my shift in outlook.

Cocyea Broom (Cocoyea)
And that's what a Cocyea Broom looks like.
Its made from the fronds (leaves ) of the Coconut Tree. The individual leaves are stripped leaving just the spine and all the cocyea are tied together in a thick bunch to make a broom. You can hold it in your hand or you can make it more like a besom by adding a long broom handle to the center of the bunch just before you tie.
Cocyea broom lore really centers around its use in cleansing, especially sweeping out the less desirable energies that might be lurking around. It is regular;y used in the Caribbean for regular cleaning, especially for sweeping out carpets when you don't have a vacuum handy, or for sweeping your yard clean.
There are "jokes" and whispers about it being a good spirit cleanser, and depictions of "beating" a possessed individual with one come to mine in some circles.
Having been "beaten" myself by the many " it have to be so, and only so is correct" ideas that pervade this country, I thought it apt to name the blog thus. It really assists in cleansing my mind of the limiting thinking that usually follows anyone who rigidly follows anything. I cannot follow anyone or anything for long. And I hope no one reading this blog takes anything word for word.
Cleansing yourself and ridding your person of things, thoughts and ideas that you no longer need is always important. Hanging on to baggage only weighs you down. And weight prevents you from flying.
Every ritual or spell that you do requires you to cleanse your work area. You can create your own enjoyable Cleansing Ritual, which would be the first step to all your spells and rituals. Make your own broom, besom, cocyea broom. Tie it with a ribbon or fabric which depicts your usual workings (see colour associations), and create your own Cleansing Chant.
Widdershins I cleanse my space
For to work my magick
Any beasties left about
for them it would be tragic!
(my favourite...said while sweeping widdershins about the work area. I like to work like a mad cackling witch who has gone nuts. Mwhahahaha)
You can also light inscense and chant the same chant.
Blow away the beasties dear
Cleanse my space of dread
the uninvited in my space
Will get a blown up head!
You get the general idea.....don't make lightly with unwanted spirits, make sure they stay out of your mental space always, and your magick space as well.

When Life Gives you Lemons
So every so often LIFE will throw something at you which causes you to stop and ponder. If you are a "crazy-maker" this would seem like a big deal and you would be like "how the hell can this happen to me? Why is this always happening to me?"
If you are the one to internalize it, it will grow on your mind like the biggest Pumpkin in the Universe and block your view of reality. Or it will warp you vision and twist everything associated with that issue.
Breathe.....your first step is recognizing that you are allowing the issue to control you. Magickally, you are in control, or should be. Nothing is to great for your mind to handle. Do not allow it to take over your mind and allow your emotions to spiral out of control. GRAB A HOLD OF YOURSELF!!!
Look up.... no matter how bad the situation get outside and find a piece of sky to look at. Just the act of looking upward releases emotions which would assist in clearing your mind.
Repeat your core goals which direct your life. As a Magician/Magick worker, you should have a few goals you are working on for self-improvement/success, and repeating them helps get back to the center of your focus, and off of the annoying/mind-crushing problem.
When the issue no longer feels like its in charge, imagine it like a flat coin. The issue is on the "heads" side. Imagine walking around the coin and seeing the "tails" side. Tail Sight is where the wisdom is...what can I learn from this lesson. This issue is a gift, meant to strengthen, to teach, to push me to learn. What can I learn from this gift.
If this is a difficulty, leave the issue alone, and continue to repeat your core Magickal goals every time it feels like its taking over. Talk to no more than three people about it. Understand that three is offloading, but more than that is obsessing...and adding fuels to its energy.
Continue to repeat your core Magickal goals to yourself. If that doesn't help, draw the issue as a "beastie" on a peice of paper. Colour the bugger, make it as ugly as you want with a big mouth, horns and warts. The beastie should only be an issue, not a free-willed being (no people please, they are not the issue. Your reaction to the situation is the problem, not the person) Draw that beastie locked in a box, or a cell, and burn the bugger with a nice little cleansing chant you have created for yourself. It always helps to be childish and playfull in times of stress!
Every issue that comes up is one step on the path to your Magickal Success. Experience is the best teacher, the the Universe will send things for you to experience and strengthen your mind. If you wish to learn to be more compassionate, experiences will be sent which require compassion...so the bad news about friends and family all around who are undergoing problems and seek you out for advice or help is your work-book for compassion.
Look for ways to make lemonade with your lemons, life suddenly becomes sweeter, and tastier too!!!

Spiritual Explorations of a Different Kind part 2
Avatar-the Last Airbender
A few years back some college boys from the USA "created" a character called The Avatar, who was a little boy, a least in this life. He was a reincarnated spirit of a long line of AVATARS whose spirit returned to Earth every one thousand years to assist the Human Race through a difficult trial period. Pointing out the similarity between that and Hindu philosophy which has a "god" descend to Earth every thousand years is another blog all together.
Any who, my point was just to observe this cartoon series in its brilliant exploration of this little boy of simple origin, with the knowledge and power to become great, but needed to experience the human condition as the "key" to unlock these special abilities. His Spirit has been here several times before, but his body, and his talents shift depending on the task he needs to perform in this incarnation.
Avatar the Movie
Then there was this Movie, Avatar. In this movie, (besides the other themes which are screaming at me to discuss but will be at a later blog) the conciousness of the individual is transfered to another body which is more suitable to do the job which is required. Thats all I would say about this movie which is relevant to this blog's theme. (So tempting.....)
Surrogates
This third one, Surrogates explores the type of world where we are able to choose our bodies. The physical appearance of the individual is dictated by their desires.n How ever, in losing themselves in these surrogates, the individual loses touch with what it means to be Human.
These are just three movies which address this theme of the Avatar.....the idea that the physical body in temporary, interchangeable, and that the individual actually resides in its own conciousness and not in the physical body.
The message is simple. We are not our bodies. Our bodies are simply the vessel in which we travel this life. Our true selves lie in our conciousness which remains regardless of which body and which lifetime we are currently engaging in. What is new in the Movie Avatar and Surrogates is that we can actually choose to change the body in our current incarnation, and experience different realities in one lifetime.
This idea is found throughout many writings in theosophy, magick and occult studies. That our physical body is actually created by our conciousness is one theme which can be founf in tibetian writings, christian theology, Magickal philosophy etc.
That we are spiritual beings which incarnated several times to grow spiritually is another. That we evolve at every incarnation, and what we are given in each incarnation are the tools we need to learn the lessons we need at that incarnation.
That we are spiritual beings, learning lessons in each life; collecting these lessons in our inner conciousness, and that we know more at each incarnation than we are aware of.
This is how the majority of the Human race is able to explore spiritual themes these days, through books, film and media. Those individuals who can, tap into the evolutionary stages of spirit, and present the ideas to the mainstream for their exploration. Those who see past the entertainment factor are elevated in spirit.
Now imagine if we could go through eternity retaining some of the memories or skills from previous lives? Or, perhaps we can, before we die, decide who we want to be in our next life? Suppose we do have this power, and never used it simply because it never dawned on us?
And this is my brain going off on a tangent again...........

Spiritual Explorations of a Different Kind
Perhaps it escapes most people. But spiritual ideas come in waves, the energies usually being picked up first by creative individuals. Each trend is actually an indication of spiritual themes being explored by the human race in their own way.
Lets take for example; the use of Angel Wings in Tattoos, and graphics for clothes etc. Even the swirls and scrolls used in graphics are an abstraction of Angel Wings. Note the prevalence of symmetry in t shirt designs symbolising balance. These wings indicate the need for transcendence of self. And indeed, look at the emphasis that has been placed on self improvement in all aspects of the Human Experience. Higher education, better health, the greater need for spiritual connections...the emphasis is on a different quality of life, one than is better than the present, regardless of which point the human soul is at. The Angel wings are a symbol of the human races' obsession with the Theme Transcendence. Look at the explosion of interest in creatures with wings, butterflies, dragonflies, fairies- images of which are making their way in graphics, art, tattoos spirituality etc.....they are the same theme.
Then there are the stories of 2012, which speaks to the ascension of spirit, a release of our human bodies, and the focus on our true essence as spiritual beings.
On th heals of this trend comes another...the concept of Avatars and the virtual reality craze, which would be explored in the next post.
